Yocontalie Jackson began singing at the age of thirteen at the world famous “Met” Church located at Broad and Poplar Streets, in Philadelphia. Connie Jackson, known by her nickname, has written over thirty songs; several of which are being showcased on her lasted album, “Jesus Jam”. In the mid eighties, Connie formed her own production company called The East Coast Entertainment Group and produced Gospel Festivals for the City of Camden. She brought in such artists as Pastor Shirley Caesar, The Canton Spirituals, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Tye Tribbett & GA, Angela Boefill, Jean Carn, Norman Connors, War, Ohio Players and many others. She has produced plays such as God’s Trombones and has written several other dynamic theatrical productions.
Connie Jackson has the distinction of being named “Best Female Vocalist” in the Delaware Valley, by The K.F.C. Gospel Competition. She has recorded with Grammy award winners Walter and Edwin Hawkins, performed to standing room only crowds at the Gospel Music Workshop of America in Detroit, Michigan, and New Orleans, Louisiana. She has also performed with artists such as Walter Hawkins, Tramaine Hawkins, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Hezekiah Walker and Tyrone Tribett and GA.
Connie Jackson sang lead with the Dawkins New Sound Choir where she recorded her first hit “He’s Everything to Me” which rose to the top 10 of the Billboard gospel charts for several weeks. She continued to sing with this professional choir for twelve years and traveled throughout the United States.
Ms. Jackson’s voice is heard on the compilation CD “Healthy Food For Thought, Good Enough to Eat” which was nominated for a Grammy Award. Her excerpt on this project is titled “Mama Said Be Healthy, Wealthy and Wise”. Connie still believes the best is yet to come.
